More about Aurora Abisko
Abisko lies in in the middle of the aurora oval, the part of the magnetosphere where the aurora borealis occurs. The northern lights are basically always happening here, but what is required for us to be able to see it with our own eyes is that it gets dark enough.
The hunt
Many people think that if it's good weather, Aurora will appear. But there are many factors that go into seeing the aurora. Simply explained, the aurora phenomenon is an interaction between the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field. The solar wind consists of charged particles emitted by the sun. These are captured by the Earth's magnetic field and drawn to the poles at very high speed.
