To begin with, the evening kicks off with a meeting at your hotel in Abisko or Björkliden. Here, our guide will hand out warm overalls and explain how to use the headlamps. Once everyone is geared up and ready, the group will make their way to our Arctic teepee, nestled in the serene birch forest.

After arriving at the trailhead around 8:30 PM, the real adventure begins. Our spacious teepee, which was specially designed for this tour, offers a warm and cozy retreat. With seating for up to 30 guests and a central fireplace, it creates the perfect setting for storytelling and relaxation. Furthermore, the teepee features a large viewing deck that provides panoramic views of Mt. Noulja, Lake Torneträsk, and the vast northern skies—the ideal backdrop for the northern lights.

Meanwhile, the candlelit trail leading to the teepee winds gently through the Arctic birch forest and takes only five minutes to walk. Along the way, tracks of Arctic hares, moose, and reindeer often appear. Naturally, our guides will stop to point out these fascinating traces of local wildlife, adding a unique and memorable element to your journey.

Once at the teepee, everyone will switch off their headlamps, allowing their eyes to adjust to the peaceful darkness.
At this point, our guide will explain safety details and introduce all the accessible areas around the teepee. On especially calm nights, we may also light an additional fire outside, creating a romantic setting for guests to enjoy the Arctic under a stunning, starry sky.

As the night progresses, our guides will help guests spot the northern lights, set up their cameras, and answer any questions about the Arctic environment, Abisko’s history, or the magic behind the auroras. Although camera gear is not provided, our team is more than happy to assist guests who bring their own equipment. In addition, we’ll take professional photos of each guest, both individually and in groups, with the glowing teepee, campfire, or northern lights in the background. These beautifully edited photos are delivered within two weeks—ideal as souvenirs or for sharing on social media.

Of course, no Arctic adventure would be complete without a warm drink by the fire. During the evening, guests can enjoy piping hot lingonberry tea, freshly boiled over the flames. At the same time, our guides will share a fascinating presentation about the Sun and its essential role in creating the northern lights. Additionally, you’ll hear captivating stories about Sami culture, including their beliefs surrounding the auroras, and gain insight into life in the Arctic during the Polar Night.

Finally, at 11:15 PM, the group will make their way back to the trailhead, where transportation awaits. Whether provided by your tour operator or through our partners at Visit Abisko, we’ll ensure a smooth and comfortable return to your hotel.
